A bright college student goes for a routine exam and discovers that she is pregnant. She is pregnant even though she has not had sexual relations is almost a year. The solution to Benny's riddle will take her on a wild ride accompanied by her roommate, a fanatic religious organization, the CDC and the Quakers. This first novel presents a wry view of modern day America and its contradictions. Science is held hostage by politics, religion and good old fashioned american greed, as the star crossed couple fights to find their way back together.

This book is a contemporary thriller, with some sci-fi elements, great dialogue, a plot that keeps you guessing, and characters that are quirky, vivid and real. The plot unfolds after a pap test shows that Benny is pregnant even though she hasn’t had sex for seven months. The pap smear also shows sperm, and the sperm has unusual characteristics. She notifies Mac (her ex-boyfriend), recalling that he had participated in a drug study involving fertility. The laboratory alerts the CDC; drug study participants are quarantined; FALS, a “scientific” religious organization manages to corral Mac into a federal penitentiary; and Benny is persuaded by FALS to sign papers giving them much control over the unborn child.
The dialogue is clever, funny, fast moving. The setting moves between Philadelphia; Pennsylvania mountains; a school near Carlisle; CDC headquarters near Atlanta; and a prison in North Carolina. Great details and images emerge related to sperm; rock-climbing; prison life; CDC, corporate and Quaker characters; and family relationships. Suspense builds as Mac attempts escape. Can he avoid surveillance cameras? Some questions remain at the end of the book: what caused the change in Mac’s sperm? Did the Patriot Act really allow FALS to imprison Mac without legal representation? Can Mac vindicate himself from the accusation related to the Quaker who assisted him?

Great first novel but poorly proofread. Many typos. Would definitely buy a sequel if available. A real page turner. Note author likely a distant relative-same last name!
The story had promise; however, I was completely distracted by the numerous misspellings (there for their, it's for its, etc.), incorrect/missing punctuation (double periods at the end of sentences), changing character names (Mac's mother was first called Alice, but changed to Allison later in the story), and mixing up of locations (NC State turned into UNC and then back to NC State - believe me, there IS a difference!). With the buildup of tension throughout the book, I was looking forward to a big finish, but it just ran out of steam and stumbled to a close in the last 2 pages! I don't know if these issues are with the author's writing, or the translation to , but either way, it was a big disappointment.
